My Review of Beautiful Boy (2018)
Beautiful Boy felt honest, in a way that a true story should; the real-life Nic probably didn't get a tidy, happy little story arc either. Instead, the constant battle against his addiction felt ongoing and persistent to me in the same ways that I'd imagine it did to him. The performances were affectionate when they needed to be, but mostly cold and lonely. The chemistry between Carell and Chalamet, even when they were fighting, was strong enough to make me wish they shared more screen time.
