My Review of GONE GIRL (2014)

In an early flashback to New York, Amy tells Nick that his chin makes him look like a villain; later, when Nick is staring into the camera on Sharon Schieber's talk show, he visibly decides to cover his cleft chin with his hand as he fakes a longing gaze for his wife to come home. This subtle detail emulates the amount of thought and care that was put into the entirety of Gone Girl. David Fincher drops breadcrumb details just often enough to keep me on his leash as the mystery chugs along. At the times where I felt I had Amy figured out, a new twist or turn would send me back to square one. To be glued to the screen is no easy feat for a two and a half hour running time, but the fantastic pacing and crescendo of intensity in the final thirty minutes made each second worth it.
